Congratulations to Ty Hallborg for raising $2150.00 for AIK this year!

This AIK event takes place on Pitt Meadows Day after the parade on Saturday, June 6 in front of Zen Berry.  The event enables individuals to raise funds on their own and give the money to support families battling cancer.

Last year we had a fantastic Headshave fundraiser under the banner of "Shaved Pink" with Realtor, Juliette Smith as our primary campaigner and team leader. (read the relaathletes in kind YouTube channelted story, BALD BY HER BIRTHDAY).

This year, June 6, 2009, our primary campaigners will be the Pitt Meadows Firefighters under the banner of "SHAVED  BLUE" at our new location, Zen Berry (check for location). Check back to this page often as we will be adding information daily.

We want to challenge you to take the firefighters lead and join the Head Shave event and raise money for cancer.  We will add your name, a picture, to this page and then set you up for online donations. This year all donations will be received online (no pledge sheets).  If you want to join the firefighters by shaving your head for cancer, please let us know on the contact page.

Meet our Head Shave Team

Chelsea

Meet Chelsea Hampton-Windblad

I am wanting to participate in the head shave for "Athletes in Kind" because my family like many other families have been directly affected by cancer. My Nan passed away from breast cancer, my Mother is a melanoma survivor, and my Aunt is a breast cancer survivor. My family has a very active athletic history, especially in the Maple Ridge community. I feel this is my opportunity to try to raise money to help support such well deserving families.

Thank you for your support!

Rock

Meet Rock Chalifour

Rock is closer to 60 than he is the 1960s and this hair has to go. School is finally out and on the verge of a new career as a Nurse Practitioner he needs your help to lose the ancient student hairstyle.

Reid Muller

Meet Reid Muller

I am doing the Head Shave again because…………it’s a fun way to raise money for families battling Cancer. My friends and I have been doing it for 5 years this year. My Poppa is a survivor of Prostate Cancer, and my Grandma died 15 years ago of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma I wish I could have met her because she must have been a pretty cool lady to have a charity started because of her. There are so many different ways that you can help AIK support families battling Cancer because AIK finds ways anyone including kids can be part of. Like the Spin Relay, KM Clubs, Race Team, Art Auction, bottle drives, Krispy Kreme doughnut sales, fun runs and races and there is always more to come.

Cheers, Reid

Captain Mike Larsson

Captain Mike Larsson

Heading up the Firefighters Team is Captain Mike Larsson.  Mike has previously supported Athletes in Kind by participating in their 12-Hour Spinning Relay, so it was natural for him to take up the head-shave challenge. He has a soft-spot for cancer sufferers, and wanted to set an example as a representative of the community, and also to spur on his fellow fire fighters.  This will be Mike's first time to sport a bald head.

However, Mike says, "My main goal is to beat Reid!". And the rivalry is on.

Paul, Tyson and Joel Schofield

paul, joel and tyson schofieldHi our names are Paul and Tyson Schofield we are 11 years old and our little brother Joel is 8.  We have decided to do the AIK headshave this year as a family.  Our uncle had a brain tumour when he was 17 and our Grandma died with cancer 3 years ago.  Its hard for kids our age to feel that we can help but raising money by shaving our heads makes us really excited. We feel really bad for kids who loose their hair because of cancer and have no choice.  If doing the Headshave together makes other people know about cancer then that's really good too!  We feel really good about helping others and we think that's what God wants us all to do!

colby and nolan larson

Colby and Nolan Larson

Both boys are very active in sports and were upset to hear that some kids can't always play because they are too sick! They learned about the event from Reid Muller their neighbour and are anxious to provide some competition as well!!

Kathleen Acaster

I am cutting 10 inches of my hair to donate to a foundation that makes wigs for cancer patients.  I am cutting my hair in memory of Angie Williams, who passed away May 17th 2008 at the age of 13.  I coached Angie when she was nine in the Pitt Meadows Soccer Club.  Having coached in Pitt Meadows for nine years, I thought that cutting my hair at the Pitt Meadows Day celebrations would be the perfect way for me to help support the many deserving families.  Thanks for your support!

Matthew Neilsen

Matthew Neilsen

Hi my name is Matthew, I am 11 years old and this is the third year in a row I am shaving my head to raise money for Athetes in Kind. I think it is sad when someone has cancer and I want to help them and their family. I hope the money that I raise helps someone and their family. My family is the most important thing in my life. Sincerely, Matthew
